This Privacy Statement is subject to the Terms and Conditions of your St. Francis Credit Union products and services.

St. Francis Credit Union fully respects your privacy and will not collect any personal information about you without your consent. Any information you volunteer, for example by email or through online feedback forms, will not be made available to third parties, and is used by St. Francis Credit Union only in line with the purpose for which you provided it.

Personal data may be anonymised and used for statistical purposes. In certain circumstances we may be obliged to disclose personal information relating to you to third parties in order to comply with legal requirements.

Information That We Collect From You

We may also collect non personal information that may identify you such as location, IP address, browser type, operating system and other details about the device you are using.

  • Telephone calls may be recorded. This is to verify your information, for our staff training, regulatory and for service quality purposes.
  • Information about your computer, including where available your IP address, operating system and browser type, for system administration and to report aggregate information to our advertisers. This is statistical data about our users’ browsing actions and patterns, and does not identify any individual.
  • Our web server collects information about your visit, for example:
    • number of people who visit the website;
    • date and time of visits;
    • number of pages viewed;
    • amount of time spent on the website;
    • popular sections of the website.

How We Use Your Personal Data

We use your personal data to provide our services to you. Where you have consented we may also use your information to send you promotional offers and marketing. You are free to withdraw this consent at any time. We respect your privacy at all times. Your information will never be disclosed or shared with others without your consent, unless required to do so by law.

The credit union will use your personal data to assist it in carrying out the following:

  • To open and maintain an account for you.
  • Meeting legal and compliance obligations and requirements under the Rules of the Credit Union, the Credit Union Act, 1997 (as amended) and Central Bank Regulations.
  • To contact you in respect of your account and any product or service you avail of.
  • To comply with our legal obligations for example anti-money laundering and beneficial ownership obligations.
  • Administering any applications for services or products you may make and to ensure the provision of that service or product to you.
  • In assessing your loan application and determining your creditworthiness for a loan.
  • Verifying the information provided by you in the application.
  • In order for the credit union to purchase loan protection and life savings protection from ECCU.
  • Conducting credit searches and making submissions to the Central Credit Register.
  • Administering any loan/overdraft applications you may make or any loans/overdrafts you may have with us, including where necessary, taking steps to recover the loan or enforce any security taken as part of the loan.
  • We may use credit scoring techniques and other automated decision making systems to either partially or fully assess your application.
  • To comply with Central Bank Regulations to determine whether you are a connected borrower or related party borrower.
  • Providing updates on our products and services by way of directly marketing to you.
  • When acting as an insurance intermediary, to meet our obligations.
  • When acting as in the provision of insurance on an introductory basis to meet our obligations.
  • In order to process payments that are paid to you or by you. For example, if you hold a debit card with us, we will share transaction details with our card scheme providers (e.g. PAYAC, Transact Payments Malta Limited and Mastercard) or other providers of payment processing services such as merchant acquirers and Intesa San Paolo for the provision of credit transfers and direct debits .
  • For the prevention of fraud

We may use anonymised or statistical information to analyse our website and services and to make improvements or other adjustments to them. We do not, without your consent, disclose information about identifiable individuals to third parties, but we may provide anonymised statistical data to them for research, regulatory and survey purposes.

We may disclose your personal information to approved contractors or sub-contractors working on our behalf.

Data Changes & Data Retention

Security & Safeguarding Measures

All personal data collected is transferred and stored securely, using industry standard encryption protocols, and approved transfer mechanisms. Please note however, that we cannot guarantee that the measures we maintain will guarantee the security of the information. Our team is trained on the importance of Privacy and Data Protection and will adhere to our internal policies.

International Transfers

St. Francis Credit Union aims to ensure your data is stored within the EU, however this may not be possible at all times due to the international third parties that we use. Where these transfers take place, we will ensure the same high standard of protection for your personal data at all times.

 

Our Banking app

Use of Information when Logging On to our St. Francis Credit Union mobile app

When you log into our mobile app we will collect information about you and your use of our services. For example we will be able to identify you as a member, what pages you navigate to and your actions while logged in. This helps us to optimise the service we provide to you, deliver relevant communications to you and allows you to get the most out of your mobile app.

Push Notifications on the St. Francis Credit Union Mobile Banking App

Push notifications are messages that mobile apps send to your mobile device to improve your interaction and experience with us. You may receive notifications about services, offers and product information based on your location and your preferences. Upon download or upgrade of the mobile banking app you will be asked for permission to switch on location and notification services.

Security of information

We understand how important the security and the confidentiality of your information is to you. St. Francis Credit Union treats the security of your information with the utmost importance. Please note that St. Francis Credit Union cannot guarantee the privacy or confidentiality of information relating to you passing over the Internet.

By using any of the services/information available on or via our website or app, you accept and are deemed to accept that electronic mail messaging and Internet communication may not be free from interference by third parties and may not remain confidential. The use by you of our websites or apps is at your sole risk.

How you can protect yourself:

  • Never reveal your password to anyone
  • Never give your PIN or login details to anyone who calls you or in an email or by text message
  • Never login to any mobile banking channel through a link in an email
  • Only download our mobile banking Apps from official sources (i.e. Apple App Store and Google Play)
  • Lock your phone or tablet when inactive
  • Monitor your accounts, debit card and your list of online payees on a regular basis to ensure everything is in order. One of the best ways to detect fraudulent activity quickly is by examining your account activity regularly. Check for suspicious money transfers, payments or unauthorised access.

If you do find anything suspicious, report it to us at one of our branches or by telephone call to (065) 6828305. Our mobile banking app always displays the date and time of your last log in, check this is correct. When you are finished using our mobile app or online account service ensure that you log out fully.

Be Fraud Aware, Protect Your Account – St. Francis Credit Union (stfranciscu.ie)

Fraud

Recently a number of financial institutions including credit unions and their members have been targeted with members receiving hoax e-mails and text messages that are aimed at gathering Internet/account details of members. Some of these hoax e-mails and text messages have encouraged or facilitated contact with hoax websites that purport to be (but are not) a credit union website. You can only download our app from the Apple store or from Google Play. Always be cautious of disclosing your personal details.

We only request your personal details if you initiate e-mail contact with us, or you initiate a request for a particular service online and we require personal details to provide you with the requested service e.g. a loan or current account application or an application for another product or service.

Hyperlinks

Some of the pages on our websites and/or online app may contain hyperlinks to third party websites which are not maintained by us.  You are reminded that different terms and conditions of use will apply as a user of such websites.
